Our Services

Clinical Psychology/
Therapy

For most of my career my main role has been as a therapist.  While my training is in a number of modalities, I see myself as primarily an ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) therapist with an emphasis on behaviour change.  I have a strong commitment to the scientist-practitioner approach.  That is, the use of evidence-based practices in therapy.

I regularly see treat people for a wide range of issues, some of which include:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Pain

  • Stress

  • PTSD

  • Work-related issues

  • Relationships

  • Grief

  • Recovery from illness

  • Life changes

  • Personal Development

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Depending on the situation I will recommend elements of Mindfulness-Based therapy. These therapies are modern extensions of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) that have as a core component the development of the skill of mindfulness which forms the basis of other strategies.

Research has shown benefits with relatively brief periods of training in this skill. I have been trained in a number of these therapies (ACT, MiCBT, MBCT, MBSR, CEB, DBT); however, I tend to base my work, individual therapy and group programmes on what the science says is most effective.

For Professionals

I offer a range of services for professionals. This includes short- or long-term professional supervision based on my areas of expertise: Neuropsychology, ACT, Mindfulness, Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and working with chronic pain. I have supervised a number of experienced clinicians in these areas.  I also consult regularly regarding complex assessments, trauma, and on aspects of Neuropsychology.

I also offer workshops for professionals on topics such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Working with Mindfulness and Emotions, and working with chronic pain.

Sports Psychology

I work with athletes and others in high demand areas wanting to enhance their performance. My book, ACT in Sport (2020), applies the principles of ACT training to sport and other high-performance contexts.

This practical manual offers a structured approach for increasing psychological flexibility and enhancing performance, specifically in sports contexts - targeting athletes, sport psychologists, and coaches.

Neuropsychology

I have made a significant contribution to neuropsychological practice in New Zealand through fostering contemporary assessment measures and techniques that are in use internationally. I offer supervision for other psychologists in neuropsychology and advice on assessment measures.

I am available for complex psychological and neuropsychological assessments and treatments for brain injury.
